TRYIN' TO REASON WITH THE TORNADO AND FLOOD SEASON

.

Saturday, August 2:  St. MinneSomePlace and Harbor Restaurant, Bar & Marina held a fundraiser for this spring's Tornado and Flood Victims of the Upper Midwest.   $2000 was raised for The American Red Cross to benefit the Upper Midwest Flood Relief efforts.  It was basically a music festival with local tropical musicians playing from noon until closing.  During the seasonally mild day, raffles were held for a variety of prizes, all donated by friends of St MinneSomePlace including:  Scott & Diane Carbonneau, Vince & Bridget Smale, Tracy Campbell, Dawn Narducci, Nancy Torrel, Linda Charnley, our friends down in Iowa - The Isle of Iowa and The Cedar Isle Band; as well as people who secured donations, including Mike Ross and Ellen Freeman -- from companies such as Buffalo Wild Wings, Acapulco Restaurante, Vader & Landgraf, Grand Restaurant Equipment & Design, Chatterbox, Gabby's, Big Louie's, Bill's Distribution, and Kemps.  Mike Oswald was the nautical wheeler on this event and he did a great job getting everything organized. Other Parrot Heads who assisted in making this day worthwhile are: Rebecca Oswald, Tracy & Dan Campbell, Vince and Bridget Smale, and Marilyn Listvan, Jon Gaasedelen, Scott & Teri Merrigan, Vince & Bridget Smale, Lisa Gibbs and Paul Moore, John and Carol Sherwin, and Jon Iannazzo.  Finally, this day would not have been possible without the timely cooperation of Brad and the Harbor Restaurant, Bar and Marina crew -- their quaint establishment certainly deserves our support whenever we should happen to make it down their avenue...or river, depending on your particular mode of transportation.

COCONUT, WORLD OF BIRDS, ST MSP ZOO
Throughout this past year, St MSP held several events that produced funds to benefit
Coconut and the ST MSP Zoo, World of Birds, program.  On June 22, the presentation of a
ceremonious check was made to the zoo in front of a live audience during their
regularly scheduled presentation.  St MSP residents then spent the remainder of the day enjoying the Zoo, its new trails and featured animals.  Coconut is now 11 years old and the star of the show.  ST MSP originally raised the funding required for the St MSP Zoo to adopt Coconut in 1997.
He indeed is a strange bird.  If you haven't seen Coconut or the WOB show,
it's worth the price of admission.

CM&AG

The 11th Annual Cajun Martini's & Afternoon Golf was another success. The big winner of the day was the Alzheimer's Association, for which we raised $306. The shot of the day was made by our Head Bwana, who sank a 140 yard 8 iron for eagle. The fact that the shot hit a tree first made it even more spectacular. The weather cooperated with us again, though we did have a brief sun shower. The winning team this of Bridget & Vince Smale, Chris Ross and Billy Drummond shot an impressive 65.

The individual prize winners were:

Men's Short Drive              Craig Hermanson

Women's Short Drive         Crystal Hendrix

Men's Long Drive               Erik Moe

Women's Long Drive          Bridget Smale

Closest to the Pin              Brian Klang

Long Putt                         John Sherwin

Best Decorated Cart         Sue & Jim Hegarty

We had a nice group for dinner and drinks at Bennigan's, including some non golfing members who joined us for the 19th hole. Hope to see many of you next May for the CM&AG XII.

Thanks,

Dave & Jon

THR: Grand McCaw Auction Item

Dawn "the Artist" Narducci's custom painted chair

The Canterbury Inn on the Quaint Island of St MinneSomePlace was turned into a Tropical Paradise and was shaking on its foundation on 4/5 when about 175 Parrot Heads gathered to phlock to the sounds of ol' Joe Bones and also the Cedar Island Band, partake in a LandShark or 4, jello shots, margaritas.... The Buffett Buffet was stocked with all kinds of good eats, including a big pot of Jammin' Jerk Shrimp courtesy of Margaritaville Foods and several entrees courtesy of Kokomo's Island Cafe in the Mall of America.  Ray and his fillies from LandShark provided beautiful banners and games with the winners getting, what else, LandShark Lager. Our LandShark distributors also generously donated 2 pavilion tickets for Jimmy at Alpine Valley with which we raised nearly $500 for our charities.  When the dust had finally settled and the air had finally cleared, things were much better off than we had feared. In fact, in keeping with our philosophy of helping our local charities, we raised over $5,000 to be split between Store to Door which provides grocery shopping and prescription drug delivery to the frail, elderly, and disabled; and Majestic Hills Ranch which provides therapeutic horseback riding to children with special needs. A big thanks to all who made this terrific PHlocking the success that it was!  The high lines are definitely humming with the tales from late last night.  The Coconut Telegraph is relaying the news all over the Island about the terrific THR PHlocking held on April 5.   What a day it was... from Decoration to Cleanup and everything in between.  Great music from ol' Joe Bones and the Cedar Island Band... with special guest tambourine player, Julie Tonner.  The rousing rendition of Happy Birthday to Rhonda and Vicky to Shelly seeing "how low she could go" in the Bra Limbo... a good time was had by all!   To everyone who pitched in and made this the successful PHlocking, a very special THANK YOU!!  I'll surely miss someone if I try to do this on my own so we'll have a more detailed wrap up soon!  Majestic Hills Ranch and Store to Door will benefit from all of your generosity.  I would like to say it was great to have Ray and his fillies from College City Beverage there and thanks for providing some beautiful THR banners and fun games, and, along with Capital City Beverage, the two Alpine Tickets that we raffled off (congrats, Dave A.).  Also, we got a special treat (and surprise) when the owner of Kokomo's in the MOA came with Coconut Shrimp, BBQ Ribs, and Jerk wings for the Buffett Buffet!  Also, thank you to all the great island inhabitants that donated their old cell phones and ink cartridges to the Animal Sanctuary.  This will add some very needed dollars to their building fund.

Parrot Head Night with the TIMBERWOLVES!
Though you have heard this tale before
Take care of your needs and watch out for you greeds
Or that wolf will be at your door

--I Used to Have Money One Time

.

Saturday night March 22nd, a spirited group of Parrot Heads braved the spring snow squalls to represent St MinneSomePlace for the first ever Parrot Head Night at The Timberwolves!    The evening's festivities started off with a private pre-game phlocking in the Butler Square Atrium.  We enjoyed a tasty Cheeseburger in Paradise buffet catered by Champps, and top notch entertainment provided by our very own ol' Joe Bones.  What a treat that was!  Everyone commented on how great Joe's music sounded in that space.  The Champps and Timberwolves staff enjoyed the show too.  Champps is now working with Joe to play some Happy Hour gigs in their alley this spring and summer.  Watch for upcoming details on Joe's website www.jamboacousticmusic.com  After stuffing ourselves with Cheeseburgers and a few cold beers we set sail across the street to the Target Center to see the Timberwolves rough up the New York Knicks.  The Parrot Heads must have brought some good mojo because the Wolves mopped up the floor with the Knicks and coasted to a 20+ point victory.  The Wolves also graciously donated a basketball autographed by the entire team that we will be auctioning off at This Hotel Room Phlocking on April 5th.  We had a blast and wish more of you could have joined us.  But fear not, we are already talking to the Wolves about the 2nd Parrot Head Night at The Timberwolves!  Keep an eye on the horizon for a date in the fall.  Fins Up!   Patrick Ó Brien
