This coming Saturday, we’ll be gathering the Phlock for fun
and mischief on our 12th Voyage of This Hotel Room! Don’t forget the

fabulous items this year are several pieces signed by Jimmy Buffett and
a beautiful hand made bar that would look great even in your dinning
room! Who needs a table! This
year’s event will feature both a new venue and new entertainment.
We’ll be Phlocking at the Canterbury Inn in Shakopee and have locked up
the entire hotel just for us! Details on the
THR

“Phins” from St. Louis, Missouri. Several members of the club have
seen them perform in Key West at Meeting of the Minds over the past few
years and we think you’ll all be very pleased to have them play at our
event. You can check them out at
www.Phinsband.com
As you can see from
their website, they play plenty of BUFFETT! Check out the “about
the band section” on their website and you’ll see that four of the six
name Buffet tunes as their favorite song, and one of the others mentions
Scott Kirby’s song “4 Good Dogs”.In addition to appearing at MOTM,
and club Phlockings in and near St. Louis, they play several regional
Phlockings including Pardi Gras, Stars Fell on Alabama, and Flipperstock. So pull out the shorts & flip flops or the grass

The British Are
Coming!!
I love these next
two items. So glad that the British Senior set is
so active and having a jolly good time while
enjoying their golden years in the Sunshine State!
Cheerio! – Capt. Patrick
A
British great- grandmother
outdid her fishing champion husband by hooking a 9ft
shark on a family holiday in Florida. Mary Cook, 61,
from Wenvoe near Cardiff, strained her neck muscles
and needed physiotherapy after battling the lemon
shark. She had never fished before but decided to
join husband Colin, 59, and his friend Garry Evans,
60, on the fishing trip in the Florida Keys. After
30 tiring minutes reeling in the 100-lb shark she
let it go, but described it as "tremendous - a once
in a lifetime thing". Mrs. Cook said: "It was my
first time out on a boat and the boys are both
experienced fishermen. I guess I beat them at their
own game Now I can't wait to go again. "It was so
tiring. I was exhausted but Colin and Garry were
shouting encouragement and I knew I had to get it."
After a half-hour struggle, the trio pulled the
shark on to the boat, reports the South Wales Echo.
"When I looked at it I couldn't kill it. It was just
such a lovely creature. I was on such a high, but I
had to throw it back in."

FORE!
A
British pensioner interrupted a game of golf in Florida to save a
man from a 7ft alligator. Tom
Arundel,
73, from Basildon, Essex, was playing golf at New Port Richey, in
Florida, when he heard shouting, reports the BBC. Mr. Arundel and
American friend Pat McGuire, 68, rushed to help and found Vernon
Messier, 57, waist-deep in water as an alligator tore at his foot.
Mr. Messier gouged at the alligator's eyes and it let him go,
allowing the pair to pull him out. The victim had been collecting
golf balls from waterholes when the alligator attacked him. Mr
Arundel said: "We just heard someone shouting for help and saying 'a
gator's got me.' We rushed over with our golf clubs and found this
man hanging off the bank. "The alligator had his foot and wouldn't
let it go. This guy was wearing a wet suit down to his ankles and
that probably saved him." Mr. Messier was left with a bloodied foot,
but was able to drive himself to hospital and was thought likely to
make a full recovery. The alligator was later caught and killed.

Cocktails At SunUp
I
love Mexican food, but on occasion I have to admit I'm tired of
Cerveza, or
Margarita's
that seem mandatory for the meal. So last year prior to a big
JJW show, we decided it was time for: OHHH, OHHH OHHH, Sangria
Wine. This one came out of Texas, and it was the
biggest hit of a Patio event ever! Give it a try at your next
big bash: It was toward the end of summer and I think people were
beer'd out, so this made a home run:
4
Bottles Cabernet Sauvignon, Warm
1
Bottle White Zinfandel, Warm
3/4 quart orange juice (I like to use a non-concentrate, like Simply
Orange)
2
cans pineapple juice (the small ones)
1
can Sprite
1/4 cup Grand Marnier
3
Oranges, wheeled
3
limes, quartered
6
Strawberries, halved
Now you won't hear this often in my drink recipes, but go cheap on
the wine. We used the inexpensive Chilean Cab's. but I bet Trader
Joes 3 buck (chuck) Charles Shaw is just as good. But don't skimp
on the OJ or Grand Marnier. Let the ingredients sit warm in a vat
for 2 hours. Then refrigerate overnight. When serving, pour
over ice and add some new/fresh fruit for a nice presentation.
Anybody going to San Antoine, or maybe Sarasota? Any place is
alright as long as I don't have to go to Waco!

Have 'New Friends'
found a new home in Key West? So
you say you’ve been to Key West many times and don’t need another
photo with the famous marker at Southernmost Point? Well guess
again my Parrot Head Phriends! Now there’s a new attraction at the
point. The question is, will they still be there next time you blow
into Cayo Hueso? - Capt. Patrick
They're
here for an extended visit. Or maybe they'll stick around
permanently. The seven bronze sculptures, titled
New Friends, have taken
their place next to the buoy at the Southernmost Point, where
tourists have posed to have their picture taken for decades. ''They
are almost lifelike -- I like them,'' said Paul Guerrieri, visiting
from
Canada. But Robin Storch, owner of Chrome Horse Photography in
North Carolina, was not impressed. She called the sculptures ugly,
saying they reminded her of the ''Pompeii children'' who were
unburied centuries after a volcanic eruption. The seven figures --
four adults and three children representing different ethnicities --
were created and donated by sculptor J. Seward Johnson Jr. as a gift
to his adopted hometown. No thanks, the Key West City Commission
said. There's not enough room. Several other cities came forward
saying they'd be delighted to take the $750,000 sculpture series,
said Claudia Pennington, executive director of the Key West Art &
Historical Society. Eventually, public outcry prompted
Key West
to rethink the gift. Last month, they agreed to give
New Friends a 60-day
trial. ''Funny, I'm quite used to the art establishment being
against me,'' said Johnson, 76, whose work is often panned by
critics but loved by the masses. ``Here, they were all for me. It is
part of the dysfunctionality of Key West that I love.'' Johnson,
who lives a stone's throw away from the Southernmost Point, is an
heir to the Johnson & Johnson pharmaceutical fortune. He has sold
$30 million worth of sculptures to museums, cities and private
collectors around the world. One of his many exhibits,
Beyond the Frame: Impressionism
Revisited, is attracting strong crowds at the Custom
House in
Key West. It had been displayed at the Corcoran Gallery in
Washington. After
New Friends was
hoisted into place this week -- making sure enough room was left for
wheelchairs to pass -- people formed lines to have their pictures
taken: tattooed bikers, Princess the dog, Ralf Sehner and friend
James Ratledge of Munich, Germany, and Canadian couple Tanya and
Chris Carty sporting matching hats with blue butterflies. One biker
sporting a Harley Davidson vest put his hat on the sculpture of the
kneeling boy. ''It's going to be fun,'' said Key West Mayor Morgan
McPherson, who has voted for the project from the very beginning.
``And I think people began to see it is not as threatening and will
be more interactive than they thought.'' And, McPherson added,
people have already shown their affection for the sculptures.
Pointing to the one adult female statue in the group, he said: ``I
think somebody already gave her a kiss.'

Cheeseburger In
Paradise Indeed!
A US restaurant
has come up with the world’s biggest burger -
weighing
a staggering 123lbs ! It's made up of an 80lb beef patty, along
with 1lb each of lettuce, ketchup, relish, mustard and mayonnaise.
Other ingredients include 160 slices of cheese, five onions and 12
tomatoes. It is topped with banana peppers and 33 pickles then
sandwiched into a 30lb bun. The burger is estimated to have more
than 120,000 calories. Pub owner Denny Leighey, of Clearfield,
Pennsylvania, created it for a charity event but plans to charge for
similar burgers. He posed for photos (at left) with the local mayor
to show the burger’s size. The restaurant already held the record
for the world's biggest burger, with a 105lb version. The previous
largest burger was 105lb.
